RE: The UN Commission on the Status of Women
- Condemn and expel the Islamic Republic of Iran due to the law on compulsory hijab and imprisonment of women protesting against compulsory hijab.
We are approaching this Day of Hijab, which is mandatory in the laws of the Islamic Republic of Iran, which is a clear example of violence against women. The Islamic Republic has even become a model of misogyny in the Middle East. Taliban for example, which has recently regained political power in Afghanistan is copying what the Islamic regime of Iran has been doing.
The brave women of Iran have been working hard to achieve their most basic rights since March 8, 1979, International Women’s Day. However, since then thousands of women have been imprisoned, tortured, humiliated, and insulted for their demanding their basic rights. Over the past decade, many young and courageous women have been standing up against the compulsion to wear the hijab. Many of them are in prison at the moment. Vida Movahed for example, one of the Revolution Street girls was threatened, arrested and imprisoned. Raheleh Ahmadi, Saba KordAfshani, Yasmin Ariani, Monireh Arabshahi, Mojgan Keshavarz are some other women rights activists who protested against compulsory Hijab, and currently are in prison.
Today, as we are getting close to the 1st of February, the International Day of Hijab, we demand the release of all women who are in prison for protesting against the obligatory Hijab. We ask you to immediately condemn the Islamic Republic of Iran due to misogynistic policies they have been following. We ask you the Islamic regime of Iran to be dismissed from the UN Commission on Women, so that Iranian women would get a better chance to fight against such barbaric regimes.
We want secularism, freedom, equality for Iranian people, demands which can not come true as long as the Islamic regime exists. We would like to ask you once forever to boycott the Islamic regime of Iran.
